Coconut Flower

Last Sunday as I stepped into the farm after a gap of two weeks Mangal announced: “Sab a coconut tree has flowered”.
Which one? I asked.
Pointing towards the fence on the North side, he said: “The fourth one from the left.”
coconut flowerI had planted 22 coconut palms, of three varieties. To had succumbed for reasons unknown to me. I have waited for four years now and was anxiously waiting for them to yield a flower. At last one of them had. I was overjoyed and rushed to the tree. A conical branch was emerging from the trunk. Will the flower become a fruit? Only time will tell.
If nothing else, farming can instill you to be patient. It teaches you to value the wait mode, if there is one.
It has never been easy to be patient, but it’s probably harder now than at any time in history. In a world where messages and information can be sent across the world instantly and everything is available with only a few clicks of the mouse its difficult to be patient. Fortunately, patience is a virtue that can be cultivated and nurtured over time.
At times the wait may not be worthwhile but you become resilient with time. Nature has its own laws and you can’t hurry things up, try as you might.
